I have actually rendered my own beef lard and pork lard. It was a big learning experience! This was before I had surgery and I have yet to do it again because not only did I get about 50 pounds of rendered lard, but also I have not had the energy to try again. I have enjoyed using it for baking and cooking and it is much cheaper than butter or Crisco (yuck!). I was originally going to use it to make soap and candles and then sell them, but then we found out about my tumor and I put all plans on hold. We will be moving in just a few weeks so I am planning to start my little business up after that and try rendering more lard then. This article is great and exactly how I did it.
