Not inherantly for marriage, I don't know if I will ever meet the right woman and I'm ok with that, but for adulthood itself. I have seen many of my older friends be launched into life after high school with no idea how to keep house, cook, find good deals on groceries anything! I would consider myself a feminist but it is quite short sited to ignore the "traditional housekeeping" teachings because they are things we need. I simply think little boys should be taught them too. Of course, we want our girls to be successful, whether it be in a career or a marriage. Either way, however, they should have dishtowels and an idea of how to make a few core recipes. How else can you avoid the terrifying and insanely expensive experience of moving out? It may be an unpopular opinion among "radical" feminists, but it seems like just good sense to me.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5356551594166191460.post-61846792618036798642012-05-22T16:06:09.326-07:002012-05-22T16:06:09.326-07:00I had a Hope Chest that I filled nearly to the bri...I had a Hope Chest that I filled nearly to the brim before I was married at 18 years old. Now, I've been married nearly 26 years and I still look back with fond memories at all the excitement I enjoyed at selecting each item for my Hope Chest, to the day I finally was able to take all of it out and start using it! Such a delight! And the commentator above made a great point about preparing young men with their own set of tools, great ideas! In our family, each woman to goes off to live on her own or who gets married also gets her own tool collection.

Lanawww.FarmLifeLessons.blogspot.comhttp://www.farmlifelessons.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5356551594166191460.post-65785532419029872702012-05-22T09:22:10.017-07:002012-05-22T09:22:10.017-07:00Great post! I remember moving out my parents' house and suddenly becoming aware of all the little things I never thought to get my own of - favorite recipes, an address book with all the relatives' addresses/ phone numbers, and the stain- erasing laundry tricks that I didn't know proportions for list a few.

It is my hope that as families help their daughters collect physical pieces for their future homes, they remember the less obvious and less tangible knowledge pieces as well!Jamiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14749612769351728802noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5356551594166191460.post-1628972090587926322012-05-20T19:13:09.664-07:002012-05-20T19:13:09.664-07:00My husband and I have 4 daughters.
